Cranial Sacral Therapy

Cranial Sacral Therapy is a powerful treatment approach that helps to release restrictions deep within the body

Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST) is a hands-on therapy, where the touch is gentle, non-invasive and usually subtle. It is a powerful treatment approach that helps to release restrictions deep within the body – specifically the craniosacral system. This frequently frees up space and eases pain, tension etc in other body areas!

The craniosacral system is a physiological system, encompassing the bones of the skull and spine, within which are membranes and fluid – all serving to protect your brain and spinal cord (i.e. your central nervous system).

Cranial Sacral Therapy involves the therapeutic application of gentle mobilisation and release techniques to the craniosacral system.

This therapy also complements and stimulates the body’s own natural healing process, which has enhanced how I work with people.

I am currently studying Cranial Sacral Therapy with the Upledger Institute UK.

What is a Cranial Sacral Therapy treatment like?

Treatments are done fully clothed, lying on your back.

The touch/pressure used is gentle.

It is very relaxing both during and after the treatment.

We initially start at the feet or skull to listen with our hands. There is usually a natural focus around the head, sacrum and vertebral column, but treatments are by no means restricted to these areas.

Factors that compromise posture and function can be present throughout the whole body and, by using the cranial sacral techniques we can influence movement and coordination, pain, the digestive system, the respiratory system, the endocrine system… potentially the majority of the body systems.

An important part of our approach, is that it is the person’s body that knows exactly what to do in order to straighten out and all we are really doing is listening to what it needs and helping it to do it.

Similarly to how I approach posture & movement potential in our bodies, the goal is always to help the body realign itself, taking pressure off the system and find balance.
