What are the wedges for

What are the Anatomy in Motion wedges used for?

Your foot posture will stay the same until it has something to move against.

The human foot is a mobile adaptor meaning it will adapt to any surface it lands on.

Nowadays, the ground we walk on is completely flat thus, gives less stimulus for our feet to adapt to compared to let’s say walking barefoot in a forrest.

The ground we walk on is made of smooth concrete so each footstep becomes a habitual movement.

There is very little challenging terrain for our feet to adapt and respond to (unless we actively seek out said terrain), so we need something more and hey presto, we have Gary Ward’s Anatomy in Motion wedges.

“Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it”

— Newtons First Law of Motion

Wedges are recognised as a significant part of an Anatomy in Motion interaction. Your whole body is connected meaning your feet are involved in every movement you do so it makes sense to give them the stimulus needed to promote joint space opening and tissue lengthening to aid in creating freedom in the body.
